This week, I kicked major ass at the house. I’ll give you a play-by-play.

Our house was supposed to start being resided today, but the materials are not in yet, so who knows when that will happen. So I decided to take advantage of not having workers all over the exterior of my house and tore down the awful wood fence on one side of our yard. It was literally leaning against the tree. I finished that earlier than expected, so I dug four 30” post holes for the new fence going in. Since we’re overbudget, I’m going to save us over $2,500 and do this one myself. I finished the post holes earlier than I expected, but realized I had bought posts that were too short, so I moved on to clearing the shrubs against our neighbor’s garage.

When I had exchanged the 6’ posts for 8’ posts, I laid two of the footings. I ended up using the wrong concrete and did not mix it correctly, but hopefully it will work out. I should know in 5-7 days!

We have an assortment of plants that are the spawn of Satan, including what I call the “pokey ball plant,” the “spiky plant,” and whatever produced what is on my pants in the picture below. At first I thought they were bugs and was about to have a meltdown. This area was all vines (I’ve always thought they were charming, but now I absolutely hate them); I blistered my hands pulling them off of the garage, existing fence, and itself. Once I cleared a large area, I realized it stunk back there. Also, there is so much trash! I couldn’t get over how much large our yard is with several feet of additional width. It’s actually not a bad-sized yard! I can’t wait until I get the trash cleaned, fresh soil, and some seed. I think this will be our fire-pit area.

I may have spoken too soon about the burrows in the front yard. They are back, but much smaller than before. This time, they look like mole holes. Sigh.

Our painter finished all the 2+ story painting this week! It looks great!

Wade and I found another duplex! This one is in worse condition than the last one we looked at, but the location is much better and it’s cheaper! We submitted an offer and are keeping our fingers crossed!

We are spending the weekend in Door County with my BFF and her family. I am excited to get away from the house for a bit. I’ve also been craving some human connection. Yay!
