This week was great and frustrating at the same time. Bryan, my contractor, started work on our front porch! He’s building us new handrails on the porches on the first and second floor that are up to city code. The stairs are being replaced (the current ones are rickety and uneven). Bryan is also going to tear out our handrail going to the sidewalk and give us two that match the style of railing on the house! Finally, some real progress.

I get super frustrated when I don’t have much time to work on the house. I separated from the Army about six weeks ago and am still taking care of lots of initial appointments and paperwork to establish myself as a veteran with the VA, as well as wrap up the last of my entitlements with the Army. This week was mostly consumed with these obligations.

And some exciting news…Wade and I are looking to buy another property! We are looking for something that is currently occupied, doesn’t need immediate renovations, and can cash flow for us immediately while I continue renovations on the Maple House. So, seeing properties also took up much of my time this week.

This week, I did get the chance to remove the medicine cabinet from the kitchen! We are going to reinstall it in the butler’s pantry on the other side of the wall. The spot it was removed from is where the refrigerator will be. Besides that, the time I did have to work on the house, I mostly spent removing paint from the trim. It is slow work, but I did make some progress.

A few weeks ago, Wade and I shopped for appliances at an appliance salvage store. We ended up putting a deposit on two refrigerators, a washer and dryer, and a gas stove. This morning they were delivered. Our fridges are vintage and I absolutely love them! I think they will give such a unique feel to this kitchen, and a bonus is that they take up much less space, which means: more counter space in these awkward kitchens.

Since I was having a frustrating week, I did take some of my precious time at the house to make a Starbucks run for my pumpkin spice latte of the season. Did I mention I went to the Starbucks that’s located in Target? And I found some matching pumpkin spice coffee cups for my bestie and I at the Bullseye’s Playground! I also found some pumpkin spice chapstick. Burt’s Bees, I’m impressed.
