On Monday, I spent the morning and early afternoon at The 1885 House doing some minor exterior repairs; I changed my first lock, repaired the storm door that had been damaged by the wind, replaced a light fixture that had been broken…by the wind. When I finished, I was headed to run some other errands, but Wolverine wouldn’t start. She wouldn’t even turn over. I called my insurance to request a tow truck. I have to admit, if I could CHOOSE a day to break down, Monday would’ve probably been it. And parked on the side of the road would be the ideal spot. The tow truck showed up within 25 minutes (yay for timeliness!) and the guy thought he could jump Wolverine. He did and she fired right up! Best day ever! My day/week is back on track! Score!

He left and so did I. As I was tooling around Milwaukee, I realized that none of my gauges were working. Wait, my speedometer wasn’t working either! How will I not speed?! My radio started beeping strangely and I was chuckling about how quirky and trusty this truck is. I love her. I stopped at a light and she died. Completely died. Won’t turn over. Nothing. I’m in the middle of a busy intersection. I’ll turn on my hazards, I thought. Oh, wait. They don’t work. I called my insurance and the police while people were honking angrily at me, shaking their fists as they drove by, and flipping me off. Finally the police showed up and pushed me into the bus lane. They were super helpful and just told me to roll up my window and hang tight for the tow truck.

A different tow guy showed up and towed me and Wolverine home. He even jumped her (she wouldn’t run without being continually hooked up) and let me pull her into my driveway so I can keep an eye on her for who knows how long.

The rest of the week was fairly tame. I had planned to work on renovations at The Maple House, but realized how behind I was on admin work and took the majority of the week to prep our accounting for tax time! Yay for tax refunds. I’m so thankful Wade is a tax accountant and I don’t have to hire someone to do this or suffer through doing it myself.

This week, the siding company showed up to take away the siding materials and they only took about 60%, the rest are strewn about the yard and driveway. There was even a board with nails sticking straight up in the driveway. The house is still partially wrapped and I’m not sure if this stuff is mine to keep or what we need to do. This whole fiasco has been a nightmare and this company continues to disappoint. I’m so glad we’re not doing business with them.

I did make a detailed list of tasks to complete in the downstairs unit of The Maple House (along with a time tracker) and plan to start knocking out the tasks next week.
