This has been a great week!

I finished removing all the staples from the kitchen floor! It was so much work! The skin has been peeling off my right thumb for days, but I did it! Woo hoo!

I also got new mailboxes and painted the house numbers on them! They are so shiny and sexy. Hopefully the paint won’t chip off; I used Martha Stewart craft paint. These will go out as soon as the house is resided.

I left the rat in the trap so long that he died. Poor little guy. I disposed of him today. I haven’t reset the trap, since I haven’t figured out my method of dispatching them.

In the basement and attic, there’s this awesome chimney. Based on the placement, I figured that it was located between the closet, dining room buffet, butler’s pantry, and kitchen on each side in the units. We decided to expose the chimney in the kitchen, because who doesn’t love brick?! It looks amazing and it’s so exciting to see progress! I can see the finished product in my head! I’ll get there at some point!

The windows in this house are in rough shape, but they’re original and beautiful. I think, with some replacement panes and lots of work, they can definitely be saved. They are double hung weight and pulley windows and I can hear the weights clanging when I try to open them. Most of the cords are broken and many of the windows are painted shut. It’s so sad. So I went to a door and window store a block from The Maple House that has a warehouse of salvaged items. It is amazing!!! I found sash cord that I haven’t been able to find anywhere else! Woo hoo!
I got a quote this week from one of the companies that did a visit last week to look at some of our biggest projects. Good news! It was half the price of the quote from another company for double the work! We have him lined up to do the work and he starts on September 11th! The nice part is that I will be here the whole time to creep him/keep an eye on his progress/learn.

Progress, at last! I have some ambitious goals for exterior work I want to finish before the siders begin mid-October. I’m not sure it’s realistic, but it’s still my goal.

Yesterday, Wade and I went to Home Depot for their Labor Day Sale and bought 14 gallons of exterior paint that matches our new siding. We plan to head back on Monday to buy 25 gallons of interior paint. Hopefully this will be enough for the whole duplex.
Today, we went to Manitowoc County to spend the day with my BFF and her family at their cottage on the lake! We lived with them while we waited to close on The Maple House; I miss having her a few steps away. And despite questionable law enforcement, we seriously love Manitowoc County.

It’s been a productive week! And productive means it was a great week!
