Today, Wade and I closed on our first house! It’s a foreclosure and we have waited a long two and a half months since submitting our offer, even sticking it out through one breach of contract by the bank, to get to this point. Yesterday should have been a triumphant day full of excitement, right?!

We have been staying in Manitowoc while waiting to close on our house and our friends were gracious enough to loan us their truck for our move to Milwaukee. We don’t have a lot, but we have more than can fit in our Ford Focus. Wade and I left at different times and took different routes to Milwaukee. Once in Milwaukee, I got the call. Wade had broken down in Waldo in our friends’ truck. I left Milwaukee to get him and promptly broke down on the side of the highway on the 43/94 interchange. You have got to be kidding me.

You may be able to see the tears in my eyes in the photo to the right. But even during my mini-mental breakdown, I had the good sense to realize this would someday be humorous. So I took a selfie.

I hastily had my car towed to the dealership, got a Hertz rental car, got Wade, sped back to Milwaukee, and we made it to closing with seven minutes to spare. We did it! We would have felt triumphant if we weren’t so peeved by the events of the day.

We are homeowners! You may be able to tell that I’m not thrilled with the events of the day. Wade is pretty much content since the title company gave him a lollipop.

We went back to Manitowoc for the night and decided to deal with moving tomorrow. We didn’t even see the damn house on closing day.
