This week was a bit frustrating.

I busted my butt all week, but just didn’t feel like much progress was made. I removed one of the back windows of the house to try my hand at restoration. I used a window from the public stairwell at the back of the house that is not in a unit. I didn’t want my tenants having to look at my test subject in their own unit.

Of course, with the first time of doing anything, everything takes longer as I figure out techniques and tricks. By the end of the week, my window frames were ready for glazing and my window well ready for sealing, so that’s how I spent my Friday night! I’m so excited to see the finished product! The glaze has to cure for seven days before it can be painted, so I’m at a standstill until then. Thank god we have storm windows.

I ordered some wireless doorbells off Amazon and they arrived! They’ll go up once the new siding is done and they were under 35 bucks each!

I found our matching material to our soffit at a salvage store! This old beadboard was pulled of an old condemned home and I snagged 80 square feet of it for our repairs! Getting it home in the Focus was an adventure and the material scraped a bit of the tint off the windshield. I spent some time prepping it to go up and learned a valuable lesson: when spraying rodent repellant liberally, it’s best NOT to spray the material (example: soffit) inside the house, especially if it’s going to stay there for a few days. Our house STINKS and my nose is continually running.

I caught a squirrel in the attic this week! Now…how to dispatch him? Sometimes I never learn.

Sometimes, I like to go to the attic (when it’s not suffocatingly hot) and imagine what this space could be. Since I was already up there dealing with the squirrel situation, I spent some time reflecting. I think a studio apartment would be awesome. I love what a blank canvas this space is. And that ceiling height.
